Summary: The morning after

A/N: I haven’t had much time for anything except RL for the past few weeks, and that is going to be the case for a while yet, but this suddenly wrote itself for me last night. So I’m just taking ten minutes for myself to get it typed up and posted; I hope you like it. I will be back soon, I hope, as I have lots more stories waiting to be finished and tidied up, including several for Survival. Oh - as ever, Gene was in charge and he came out with something very strange, which I offer freely to anyone who wants to raise the bunny. I blame draycevixen - you’ll see why.

Got the new Green Day album (21^st Century Breakdown) on Friday, and I’m enjoying it quite a lot. Early favourites are Peacemaker and Little Girl, although I’m sure that will change over time. One of the strange things I find with Green Day is that most of their stuff goes past me the first couple of times, and then as I get to know it better it sort of - creeps in. Works its way under my skin, into my spine and heart and fingertips. (Excuse the poeticals, it’s very late here.) Right now, if I had to choose only one piece of music to take to a desert island, it would quite likely be Holiday, from American Idiot, but the first few times I heard it, it simply didn’t register.

So I’m guessing my preferences will change as I get to know the new music better; in the meantime these two tracks are I suppose, the simplest and most - um, don’t know how to describe it - open? Does that make sense?

As so often, this evening I have spent far too much time watching the boys on YouTube (I started with this interview - warning for language). My excuse is that I’m preparing for the concert. Anyway, I came across a sweet little moment in a recording of Holiday live in Milan. Billie’s just fluffed the last note, and he reaches out and holds Mike’s hand just for a moment. Awww.

I’ll stop rambling now, and get back to what I wanted to share in the first place - the daftest line ever. I mean, I love Billie Joe’s lyrics, but seriously - “Little one; little one the sky is falling - your lifeboat of deception is now sailing.” How he manages to sing that with a straight face I don’t know; I haven’t yet managed to hear it without laughing out loud.

I love these guys.

Summary: Big spoilery thing for A2A 2.04

A/N: I wrote this fic after Ashes to Ashes 2.01, and at the time I put in the notes “Now with new, improved, series two Alex Drake.”  With 2.02 we saw a return to the yearning looks and meaningful silences, but for the purposes of this story I’m sticking with 2.01 Alex rather than 2.02 - Matt and Ash may know how to put together a story arc, but they don’t exactly have form on creating convincing and consistent character arcs across a series. Finally, I do know I haven’t got much of a grip on Alex’s inner voice, but I’ve been wanting to incorporate her enigmatic comment to Gene (“Someone fell in love with you once”) into a fic ever since she said it, and this situation seemed a good vehicle. Posting in a hurry because it will no doubt be jossed in just a few hours!

Please note that this story is not a prequel, sequel, or anything else to Hambel’s fic; it is completely unrelated apart from the fact that I have blatantly nicked her central premise of Ray sending Sam into Lost & Found where Gene is waiting for him. A/N: I’ve had the first half of this in a notebook for some time, but I couldn’t figure out where to go with it until yesterday. One of the things that surprises me occasionally in discussion about Sam’s decision, is the fact that some people feel he shouldn’t have done it because of the effect on his mother. Now, as a mother myself - although not necessarily an especially good one - I have quite strong views on that. And as it turns out, so does Gene. This is possibly the first time ever that I have set out to convey a particular message through a fic, so I hope it works and isn’t too clumsy!
