I seem to be stalled on everything at the moment, so I thought I'd do a flashslash, just to get something ready to post. Cross-posted to

Life on Mars, Gene/Sam, PG for a little language
glow perspective reach pole
“Of course,” said Sam musingly, “It depends exactly which perspective you’re looking at matters from.”
He looked so sweet lying there, the only perspective Gene was interested in was the view from on top. Not likely to happen though. Not after he’d told Sam he wouldn’t touch his delectable arse with a shitty pole. Someone else’s shitty pole at that.
Best to forget it, really. Stop imagining what the bloke would look like with the after-glow of a good shagging, and admit that he was out of reach and always would be. He sighed.
“What do you mean, Gladys, perspective? Like, my point of view or yours?”
“Sort of, Gene. You see, looking at things from a purely 1973 perspective, I can see why you wouldn’t want to take things any further between us.”
“You what?”
“Oh, I know you want to. You can’t hide things from me by shouting that they’re not so. Besides, you’ve got a hard-on just looking at me; admit it.”
“Don’t know what to say Sam. Why don’t you just read my mind a bit more, you seem to be so good at it.”
“OK then. See, the thing is, from my perspective the view is quite different. I’m starting from the viewpoint that it will all be the same in a hundred years. Or, say, thirty-three years. And when you start to look at things like that, and imagine how you might feel in thirty-three years if you’d never made a move...”
“...keep talking.”
“Well, that’s about it, really. Just, from the perspective of yourself way into the future, I think you’ll find things look quite different. Things not said, not done, you know, they’ll be cause for regret, not pride in your own strength of will. Opportunities wasted, not feats of endurance or temptations heroically resisted. Just a waste of your life.”
“That’s what you think, is it?”
“That’s what I know, Gene.”

There's a lot of things I miss in A2A, Sam and barely-sub!text Sam/Gene being the most important. But at least we've got a more recognisable Gene back, and hot with it!
