A/N: I haven’t had much time for anything except RL for the past few weeks, and that is going to be the case for a while yet, but this suddenly wrote itself for me last night. So I’m just taking ten minutes for myself to get it typed up and posted; I hope you like it. A/N: I’ve had the first half of this in a notebook for some time, but I couldn’t figure out where to go with it until yesterday. One of the things that surprises me occasionally in discussion about Sam’s decision, is the fact that some people feel he shouldn’t have done it because of the effect on his mother. Now, as a mother myself - although not necessarily an especially good one - I have quite strong views on that. And as it turns out, so does Gene. This is possibly the first time ever that I have set out to convey a particular message through a fic, so I hope it works and isn’t too clumsy!

A/N: Hmm. Bit weird, not at all sure it works. I think it was when I started writing drabbles that my writing started to go downhill. Some people use the form brilliantly, but for me it just seems to function as a lazy substitute for having the time and application to develop an idea and write it properly.

This is my second attempt at Flashslash (a story written from scratch in eight minutes) – still without a prompt. This time I had the first line waiting, which didn’t seem to make that much difference in the end.

Late last night, I discovered theflashslash community, courtesy ofhalotolerant. I’ve spent far too much time lately editing stories that have been too long in the making, so I thought I’d give it a go. I haven’t posted the results at that community, because I didn’t feel like following prompts, and having read Halo’s awesome Hazel/Bigwig offering it was obvious I couldn’t begin to compete.

I did write this in exactly eight minutes, though, adding only the quote marks after the time was up. It’s unpolished, to say the least - I’ve definitely written better in less time when the muse was on form - but I thought I’d post anyway and to hell with it.
