First Attempt at FlashSlash

Late last night, I discovered theflashslash community, courtesy of
halotolerant. I’ve spent far too much time lately editing stories that have been too long in the making, so I thought I’d give it a go. I haven’t posted the results at that community, because I didn’t feel like following prompts, and having read Halo’s awesome Hazel/Bigwig offering it was obvious I couldn’t begin to compete.
I did write this in exactly eight minutes, though, adding only the quote marks after the time was up. It’s unpolished, to say the least - I’ve definitely written better in less time when the muse was on form - but I thought I’d post anyway and to hell with it.
“So what’s it to be today, Sam? Talking or screwing?”
“Can’t we do both, Gene? I can do both at once. Well, you knew that.”
“Yeah, I knew that. Never bloody stop though, do you. Got a good mind to find a way to shut you up. Come here.”
“What?”
“Just, come here. Gonna shut you up.”
Sam walked over to the bed, grinning at the challenge. “Go on, then. Shut me up. How you gonna do it then?”
Gene reared up on the bed and took Sam’s face in his hands. “Like this”, he said, pulling Sam down on top of him, and holding Sam’s head into his chest.
“There. Always wanted to do that. Every night you turn away, and I lie here wishing you’d just stay with me.”
Sam looked penitent. “I’m sorry, Gene, I didn’t realise. I thought I was giving you space, you know, not getting soppy. Just trying to stick to the rules.”
“What are you on about, rules? Since when did we have rules?”
“Since I fell in love with you and tried to hide it.” Sam looked embarrassed. “I was so obsessed with you not finding out how much all this means to me, that I just – well, everything was built around that. Just never got round to changing things, I suppose.”
Gene smiled reluctantly. “Twat. D’you think I didn’t know how you felt? D’you think I didn’t worry and wonder about it for months before I grabbed you in that alley?”
Sam leaned up and kissed him. “I didn’t know. I just knew I didn’t want to do anything that would put you off. I just wanted to enjoy it for whatever it was going to be, because whatever it was would be better than what I had before.”
“Come here.” Gene pulled him down again, and stroked Sam’s face where it lay against his chest.
Sam lay silent for a moment, then said “Gene?”
“I know. Love you too, Sammy.”
