I seem to have missed a couple of weeks; I really need to find a different day or time to post, because early mornings just don’t work any more.

Right, so we missed the whole election thing, but as it’s still rumbling on with the coalition and all, I’m considering it still topical. So, the prompts this week:

Blue Tie, Yellow Tie

Election

A Very Civil Partnership

Post your drabble as a comment to this post, and if you have any ideas for future seasonal prompts, let me know by PM. I may also use the occasional completely random prompt if something occurs to me. For the avoidance of doubt, Clameron or any other RPS is allowed.

The rules are minimal - One hundred words exactly, and be polite when commenting!
You can write any fandom or original fiction, any pairing or none.
You don’t have to write in English if you don’t want to.

Please note that if you do choose to write in another language, I can't promise to comment beyond a simple "Thank You", although I will do my best via Google! A rough translation would be lovely, but is not essential. The translation does not have to be 100 words, nor does it need to be polished or “good English”. Just the gist is fine, to put across the idea.

And as long as you are confident that your response meets one of the prompts, that’s good enough for me.

“Just be civil, Gladys. Not too much for you, is it?”

“Depends, Guv.”

“On?”

“On whether Carling can suppress his Neanderthal instincts for long enough to allow his brain to start working. Supposing he’s got one, that is.”

“Just because Carling has a different approach to policing doesn’t make him a bad copper.”

“It makes him one that doesn’t take orders.”

“And you do? Come on Sam, while I’m tied up with this committee bollocks I need you and Ray to try to form a civil partnership.”

“Oh, dear God. I’ll do anything you ask, OK, but please, not that.”

The stuff of nightmares, Sam!

And yey, my midweek brain workout is back.

Blue Tie, Yellow Tie (LoM, Sam)

Sam had bought a new tie for work. It was yellow and his Mum said how nice it was that he was wearing something cheerful. She was the only one who liked it though. Everyone else looked at him disdainfully, as if they were saying, “DCIs don’t wear yellow ties.” So he stopped wearing it and reverted to his usual blue tie. It was at that point that he knew for sure that he was living on the wrong side of the rainbow. The monochrome life no longer held anything he wanted, he was returning to a land of colour.

“So - should I wear the blue tie or the yellow one?”

“Excuse me, did I miss something?”

“Don’t get clever, Tyler, it doesn’t suit you.”

“Seriously though, Guv, I didn’t know you owned a tie that wasn’t brown. And why is it so important, anyway?”

“Got to look smart tonight, Sam! Mother-in-law’s coming round.”

“I thought you hated her.”

“I do, but she’s doing me a favour, as it happens.”

“How’s that then?”

“Taking the Missus off my hands for a fortnight. Going to some “retreat” over in Cheshire. Poofs.”

“So - you’ll be a free man for a while then...?”
