I’ve been seriously disorganised this week and haven’t even done last week’s challenge! (Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] smallhobbit for playing; sorry I haven’t commented yet.) Today OH is going to be around all day, so...yeah. Maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, the BBC’s “on this day” yielded a long list of tragic and horrific stories, and we’re not going there, so this week’s challenges are seasonal:

First Signs of Spring

Snowdrops

Gardening Leave

As usual, don’t wait for me - if you’re inspired, go for it!

Post your drabble as a comment to this post, and if you have any ideas for future seasonal prompts, let me know by PM. I may also use the occasional completely random prompt if something occurs to me.

The rules are minimal - One hundred words exactly, and be polite when commenting!
You can write any fandom or original fiction, any pairing or none.
You don’t have to write in English if you don’t want to.

Please note that if you do choose to write in another language, I can't promise to comment beyond a simple "Thank You", although I will do my best via Google! A rough translation would be lovely, but is not essential. The translation does not have to be 100 words, nor does it need to be polished or “good English”. Just the gist is fine, to put across the idea.

And don’t forget, as long as you are confident that your response meets one of the prompts, that’s good enough for me.

First Signs of Spring (LoM, Sam/Gene)

Gene Hunt wasn’t in his house when his inspector knocked. So Sam Tyler walked round the side of the house to find his very grumpy boss standing in the middle of the garden glaring at a clump of snowdrops.

“B****y things,” Gene muttered .

“I like them,” Sam objected, “they’re a sign of spring.”

“So is the missus insisting that I mow the lawn.”

“Shall I put the kettle on?”

“No, you finish the lawn. I’ll put the kettle on.”

A little later Gene was grinning at a further sign of spring – his DI stripping off a sweat covered shirt.

Snowdrop (TDW)

As they walked away from the Fleet Prison Sexby sought to protect Mistress Fanshawe from the crowds that were jostling them. Suddenly she stopped and smiled at him. He thought she would have smiled at whoever her companion had been, but for a brief moment he allowed himself to imagine it was just for him.

“Sexby,” she said quietly, “thank you for coming with me.” She paused and looked around her “Look, a snowdrop. You know they mean hope. That’s what the Lillburnes have given me.”

And at that moment a little hope found its way into Sexby’s heart too.
