Please note that if you do choose to write in another language, I can't promise to comment beyond a simple "Thank You", although I will do my best via Google! A rough translation would be lovely, but is not essential. The translation does not have to be 100 words, nor does it need to be polished or “good English”. Just the gist is fine, to put across the idea.

Wrongful Imprisonment (The Devil's Whore)

John Lillburne surveys his cell and reflects on his life. He’s been in prison before of course, he’s been whipped for speaking out, but this time it’s different. This time the one who has imprisoned him was once a friend. This time he’s been sent to Jersey, because the writ of habeas corpus does not apply here, so it’s not unlawful, not really. This time there are no pens, no paper, no light.

And without pen and paper he cannot continue his fight. And once the fight has gone, the mind goes too, and impending insanity becomes the final jailer.

Thank you. I'd been wanting to write something on this for a while and your drabble challenge has given me both the opportunity and the inspiration to do so.

Finally getting time to post... (Broken-down Car, Life on Mars, Gene/Sam)

It had been building between them all day.

Something different in the to and fro of insults; some new intensity in the air around them as they walked the crime scene side by side. After lunch - a pie and two pints in a quiet back street - the air fairly crackled with it.

Whatever ‘it’ was.

By halfway through the evening Sam was ready to explode with nerves or impatience, possibly both. It was there, he could feel it, and he itched to get things moving.

Something must surely happen soon, but he couldn’t start it.

Gene was still his boss.

Much later, bumping slowly down an unknown lane, Sam guessed it would be soon. He took a shaky breath, then as the lane petered out, he heard the engine falter and die. He tensed.

Gene was silent for a moment then turned to Sam with a neutral expression on his face.

“We seem to have broken down, Sammy.”

Sam nearly laughed at the cliché and smiled broadly.

“You seriously expect me to believe that?”

Gene turned off the ignition with a decisive click. “It’s either that or...”

He moved towards Sam with a wicked grin.

“...we’ve run out of petrol.”
