On this day (kids back to school after Easter) two years ago, I took my first tiny steps into fandom, and internet fandom at that. On that day I joined TRA and made my first post. That post became the basis for An Unhappy Man, which I started writing about six or seven weeks later.

I have no idea what I did this day last year, although I will look it up later if I get a chance.

And today - well, today I actually find myself getting quite excited about Ashes to Ashes this evening, albeit in a sort of "almost too scared to watch" kind of way. I know it's not long now, because the trolls are out at TRA *sigh*

What is it with these people? There are always going to be people who prefer Life on Mars, or who think Ashes to Ashes is superior, and that's fine. But why does it have to be a competition? What part of these people's brains makes them think that if we don't all totally adore Ashes and agree that it's better and Mars was rubbish then we deserve to be trolled? Sheesh. I do know I'm going to be a lot quicker off the mark with reporting nasty posts this year; the whole thing just got very unpleasant last year.

Anyway, Simpsons is over, dinner is burning, kids are yelling.

Time to go.

ETA: Just read Matthew’s interview with SFX:

Do you think you picked up a more female audience?

Definitely. The Galex crowd as they’re called, who are obsessed with Gene and Alex. There was a strong female following that started to gather momentum, that wanted to see these two getting it on.

There was actually a momentum in Life on Mars to see Sam and Gene getting it on, but that was a whole other fan fiction side of things that we don’t have to go into! That was probably called Gaylicks…

Well, predictably enough I can't get onto TRA. So, first thoughts:

WOW!! Just totally captivated the whole way through. And how hot was Philip looking tonight? Gorgeous!
