Testing the new version of RTE.

Some people have had mega problems with it. Some people think the new buttons are too small and difficult to read.

I think the new buttons are beautifully clear, but I don't know what they looked like before, as I've found RTE completely unusable ever since I started using Chrome.

The posted version had extra line throws all over the place. This is very similar to how things used to "work". Now I'm going to try copy/paste from Word:

Testing LJ’s new RTE.

So this text is in bold.

And this is in italics.

And this is smaller.

And this is bigger.

Right, that's interesting. For the first time in four years, the text has actually come over formatted. But it put in a completely uncalled-for line throw after "LJ's" (ie before "new RTE). And it put in extra line throws after every line.

All of which is exactly the same kind of problem as I get copying from Word into Thunderbird. I always have to delete extra line throws there too, and there's often an additional space at the beginning of lines.

I'm beginning to wonder if this is down to the way companies like to employ programmers who are very young - because they're cheaper - and they're so young they've never used XP or Office 2003, and they're too inexperienced for it to occur to them that some people are still using it. I'm perfectly happy with XP, dammit. Why should I have to think about changing because some big-shot in a software company thinks I should?

And I've just previewed this, and there are additional line throws all over the bloody place. And one missing, just after the cut.

So I'll just have to post and see what happens. I like that the formatted copy/paste finally works, but the effing about with additional line throws is something that caused me massive problems in 2007 and if that's come back then I still won't be using RTE.

So, it all looked OK when I posted it, except that the  the bigger/smaller stuff has become standard size. And the extra line throws. I can't even find any spaces in the text to delete, so we're stuck with those. I think I won't be editing any real posts for the foreseeable future.

Dammit, LJ. Why don't you BETA your fucking "improvements" before inflicting them on the world? It's always the same - you "improve" things, make them far worse than they were before, then proudly announce them. WTF?

Honestly, I think LJ do a fantastic job in many ways - keeping on top of all the DDoS stuff can't be easy, and I remember when they moved all of their servers from one building to another for just a three-hour downtime or something, and everything worked perfectly.

It's just the whole... posting thing. Every time.
