I think Annie in the show is either Sam's idealised view of an innocent woman, or the writers' wholly inaccurate and rose-tinted view of how women were, "all those years ago". By 1973 most women under about thirty considered themselves totally equal to men and expected to have full choice in what we did in life. (It's a good job we didn't realise that some things would still be less than ideal thirty years later, but the fact remains that our expectations and self-image weren't much different from nowadays.)

Underneath Annie's "sweetness", which I think is part of walking the difficult line between proving herself and showing respect to the men in power, I think Annie is no different to any strong, intelligent woman, and I'm very pleased that came through for you in this story.

And yeah, at the time there was to a certain extent a view that if men in power were stupid enough to fall for "I'm just a helpless woman but I could boost your pathetic little ego in bed if you like" then it was a valid tactic to use against them. I'm still not sure whether it really worked for me, but I did know some people who definitely got where they wanted to be by those methods.

...threesome...

Um, interesting idea! I think given the way I've written the Gene/Sam in this universe, the only way it could happen would be in Annie's fantasy! However, I've never written a threesome, so perhaps in another world I could give it a go... *thinks* (don't hold your breath, I haven't a moment until after Christmas!).
