La Chica de Ayer - aka Spanish LOM

I’ve been watching a bit of Spanish LOM - and I like it rather a lot.

Antena 3 online Ep 1 Part 1

I’m supposed to be going to bed like an hour ago, because I need to get up early in the morning, so I thought I’d just have a quick look. I don’t speak a word of Spanish and I haven’t bothered with the subtitles yet, so I know I’m missing a lot. However, so far they seem to be following our story very closely, so I can guess for now.

2009!Samuel has the same walk and body language as 2006!Sam in the opening scene.

When he talks the guy into giving himself up in the alley he seems more alive than our Sam.

“...explicitas”! I didn’t catch the rest of it, but I knew even before I caught that word, that this was the “not exactly awash with ambiguity” line!

Sam’s stubble is a bit distracting, because it’s the one thing in which he is so very different from Brit!Sam.

Ooh, the piano intro to Bohemian Rhapsody works so well here! Definitely brought a tear to the eye. Gorgeous.

The white light and the fog, and the increasing bass line in BR just work brilliantly to make this scene in the tunnel very spooky indeed. I really like it.

Jeez, what a point to end the first segment.

Antena 3 online Ep1 Part 2

He’s arrived in 1977, and he’s even got the red cords on!

“I’m an Inspector Jefe.”

After his first meeting with Quin, when our Sam was watching the car theft film, Ernesto is totally giving out the fear thing just with his eyes; he’s not doing the body language thing that John did. Impressive. I must do this again with subtitles. Soon!

Quin doesn’t have the amazing charismatic physicality that Gene does. He doesn’t fill the entire screen like Phil does - well, not for me anyway, not yet.

Is Cris looking at his bum there? As Sam walks towards what is presumably his own desk?

The hooker girl is really responding to Quin, and he’s positively fluttering his eyelashes at her! And then Sam steps forward with his modern, sympathetic approach and she totally closes up. Amusing.

Right, got to go to bed now - middle son has a chess tournament tomorrow (today) and I have to be up at 7 to take him. Hoping to watch the rest tomorrow, with subtitles.

Thanks for posting about this. I'll have to check it out. I have a feeling I'm gonna like it - it has to be better than the american LOM.

I'm absolutely loving it, even though I don't speak a word of Spanish. Episode 5 is seriously slashy, and some of the other episodes follow the original stories very closely, so it's easy to work out what's going on.

Episode 7 of 8 is being shown this Sunday evening, and should be available at Antena3 on Monday morning. I have no idea how long the show will be available on the website, so I'd recommend you make a start! If you just want a quick dip, go for Episode 5, Part 4, the first four minutes of which is the amazingly slashy park bench scene. Then back at the station there is a good scene of Quin looking along a line of suspects and pronouncing just by looking at them which ones are gay.
