So, playing a trifle fast and loose with the days again, but better late than never. My main pre-occupation this week has been the ending of Ashes to Ashes, and that’s what I’m going with for the prompts. Please note that although the titles aren’t particularly spoilery unless you’ve seen all of Ashes except 3.08, my drabble - if I ever get round to finishing it - probably will contain spoilers for Ashes 3.08

So, the prompts this week:

Shallow Grave

Not the man I thought I was

The End

Heaven is a good pub

Post your drabble as a comment to this post, and if you have any ideas for future seasonal prompts, let me know by PM. I may also use the occasional completely random prompt if something occurs to me.

The rules are minimal - One hundred words exactly, and be polite when commenting!
You can write any fandom or original fiction, any pairing or none.
You don’t have to write in English if you don’t want to.

Please note that if you do choose to write in another language, I can't promise to comment beyond a simple "Thank You", although I will do my best via Google! A rough translation would be lovely, but is not essential. The translation does not have to be 100 words, nor does it need to be polished or “good English”. Just the gist is fine, to put across the idea.

So long as you are confident that your response meets one of the prompts, that’s good enough for me.

OK, one day late but I don’t think that’s going to bother too many people. One item which I remember being big news took place in 1973: London Stock Exchange Admits Women

So this week’s prompts are:

Daffodils

Equinox

Equality

Royalty

The last prompt was, er, prompted, by this news item. I was intrigued at the description of the public reaction to Queen Mary’s death, although I suppose then, as with Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother more recently, it was the older members of the crowd - the ones who remembered her in her earlier days - who were the most moved. Anyway, make of it what you will, and as usual, don’t wait for me - if you’re inspired, go for it!

I’ve been seriously disorganised this week and haven’t even done last week’s challenge! (Many thanks to [livejournal.com profile] smallhobbit for playing; sorry I haven’t commented yet.) Today OH is going to be around all day, so...yeah. Maybe tomorrow.

Anyway, the BBC’s “on this day” yielded a long list of tragic and horrific stories, and we’re not going there, so this week’s challenges are seasonal:

First Signs of Spring

Snowdrops

Gardening Leave

As usual, don’t wait for me - if you’re inspired, go for it!

Welcome to the Seasonal and Topical Drabble. I’m going to be out all day and forgot all about the challenge until this morning, so I’m sticking with scenes from my own life. Of course, if it’s the anniversary of something really big today and I just haven’t noticed, please feel free to drabble that instead!

The prompts for this week are:

A Letter for
(or to or from) a Child

A Train Journey

Family History

I’ll be having a go this evening or tomorrow, but don’t wait for me - if you’re inspired, go for it!

24th February 1981 Prince Charles and Lady Diana announce they will marry in the Summer

20th February 1986: MIR space station launched

21st February 1997 ‘Bridgewater Three’ released from prison

So the prompts for this week are:

Living in Space

Wrongful Imprisonment

Royal Wedding

and in a scene from my own life...

Broken-down Car

I’ll be having a go after the school run, but don’t wait for me - if you’re inspired, go for it!

Hi, and welcome to the third Seasonal and Topical Drabble Thingy!

Top of the list this morning, and therefore our first prompt, would seem to be

It's Snowing Again

In other news:

On 11th February 1975 Margaret Thatcher was elected leader of the Conservative Party(*)
On 14th February 1984 Torvill and Dean won the Gold with Bolero.
On 11th February 1990 Nelson Mandela was freed

(*)For those of you who don't know our political system, this did not make Mrs Thatcher Prime Minister immediately. In essence it meant that she was guaranteed to become Prime Minister if/when the Conservatives won the next General Election.

(On 6th February there was an anniversary of major significance to Gene, but if you check out the stories for this week you'll see why I'm staying well away from death anniversaries).

So the prompts from the news today are:

A Hole in My Arse
Dancing on Ice
Freedom

I’ll be having a go later on this morning, but in the meantime, if you’re interested, have at it!

Here’s a little experiment. I have no idea whether there will be any response, but if you don’t ask, you don’t get, so here goes:

I always enjoy the Friday Drabble Challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973, and while I was babysitting the challenge over Christmas I used mainly seasonal prompts. That gave me the idea to try writing a seasonal or topical challenge every week, perhaps around Tuesday to break up the week. And then I thought - I wonder if anyone else would like to join in?

What’s the topic this week? Well, in India, January 26th is Republic Day. And in Australia it is (has been) Australia Day.

So my prompt for this week - and yours if you want to join in - is either of the above, or Independence or New Beginnings or It's a Very Long Way.

I’ll be posting my effort after the school run, but in the meantime, if you’re interested, have at it!

Post your drabble as a comment to this post, and if you have any ideas for future seasonal prompts, let me know by PM. I may also use the occasional completely random prompt if something occurs to me.

Enjoy!
