I seem to be quite late to the party, but Matthew Graham appears to be seriously pissed off with Philip Glenister over his Radio Times interview.

He does seem to be even more angry about him and Ash being referred to as "the writers" than about Phil's claim to have originated the phrase "Fire up the Quattro". Which was a crap phrase anyway imo. Anyway, the tone of those tweets seems like something there's no coming back from!

As an aside, I screencapped the tweets and was going to post the cap, but after I'd uploaded it to Photobucket I got presented with a new set of Terms and Conditions, including the following:

"If you make your Content public, you grant us a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license (with the right to sublicense) to copy, distribute, publicly perform (e.g., stream it), publicly display (e.g., post it elsewhere), reproduce and create derivative works from it (meaning things based on it), anywhere, whether in print or any kind of electronic version that exists now or later developed, for any purpose, including a commercial purpose.

You are also giving other Users the right to copy, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display, reproduce and create derivative works from it via the Site or third party websites or applications (for example, via services allowing Users to order prints of Content or t-shirts and similar items containing Content, and via social media websites)."

So I upload a photo I've taken, and they are allowed to make money out of it? I'm not happy about that. No wonder I keep getting desperate emails from them asking me to come back and use my Photobucket - people must be leaving in droves. I shall be checking my account tomorrow and deleting any original work. This will result in broken links, which is annoying.

So, anyone recommend a similar picture-holding site where they don't assert their right to benefit commercially from my property?

This post started life as a fic rec, so I’ll do that bit first:

Round And Round by [livejournal.com profile] janszy is a wonderful story of what happened to Gene after the final scene of Ashes to Ashes (spoilers, obviously). It’s extremely well written and although I hadn’t seen the author’s work before, it was immediately plain that she was an experienced writer. Do go and read it – it’s masterful, truly.

So that brings me on to the next bit – a comm rec. I know a lot of people have moved on from Life on Mars by now, and by no means everyone stuck it out to the end of Ashes, the early stages of series one being what they were, but if you want to write LOM-fic where it is known whether Sam is mad, in a coma or back in time, or Ashes fic where Sam and Annie are mentioned, there is only one comm – as far as I know – that you can post it to. That comm is [livejournal.com profile] ashes2life.

Anyone who has spent any time at The Railway Arms, [livejournal.com profile] lifein1973 or [livejournal.com profile] a2ashes, will know that what might have been seen as the captive audience for A2A – the LOM fans – were by no means unanimous in their verdict on the new show, and that the Gene/Alex fans who bought into series one of Ashes were in some cases quite visceral in their hatred of Sam.

So if you’d like to discuss Sam without some Galexer telling you that the very mention of his name is insulting to Alex, or you want to talk about Ashes without someone who’s only seen two episodes complaining that it’s badly acted (oh please - 2.07? 3.08?) , do it at [livejournal.com profile] ashes2life!

Also, if you want to write an Ashes fic where Gene/Alex is not inevitable and OTP – one where Gene actually remembers Sam, for example; or a LOM-fic which alludes to the nature of the universe as defined by Ashes to Ashes; or a fic where Alex and Maya meet (oh, somebody please write that!); you might be wanting a comm to post it in, and that comm is [livejournal.com profile] ashes2life.

Set up and maintained by [livejournal.com profile] lozenger8, the comm is there for all the good stuff that would get flamed or deleted at the series-specific comms.

(By the way, in my personal and humble opinion, it’s best not to worry too much about the - to me at least - intimidatingly intellectual flavour of the user-info page. You don't have to write brilliant meta to qualify, although it would be great if someone did. While fanfic is the very last thing mentioned in the community profile, it is definitely allowed and welcome!)

To sum up: if you’ve seen both shows and are happy to buy in, occasionally at least, to the idea that LOM and Ashes both take place in the same universe, [livejournal.com profile] ashes2life is the place to go.

Well, we managed almost ten minutes before the forum went down. And the responses tonight are quite different. Very short posts, everyone stunned and speechless. I certainly am.

Right, so I'm getting increasingly nervous now... and I'm definitely not laughing at those who say they'd almost rather not watch and never find out how it ends.

There is an Ashes 3.08 spoiler under the cut; I think it's quite important, but it does not give away the ending, and I believe it's from an interview with Matthew Graham. I deliberately haven't read any of his interviews because he can have a rather strange attitude to fans at such times, and also because - well - spoilers, he haz 'em.

Cut for 3.08 spoilers )

Ack - totally unrelated to the above, I've just remembered a line from Ashes series one: Gene says to Alex "How do you know I don't have children?" If it turns out that Alex or Sam, or indeed anyone we know, is Gene's child I may throw stuff. Although... Chris. That hug last week took me so much by surprise, and it really could have been "My son! Finally, a man!"

Oh yes, and I bought pink wafers! I was searching for chocolate coins (to send to George Osborne for his birthday, obviously) and there, on a shelf I don't normally notice, were some pink wafers. So, seeing as how they didn't have the wine I wanted, and I'm stuck with a can of lager instead, I decided to treat myself.

Anyway, two hours and counting...

Some brief thoughts on tomorrow night’s Ashes to Ashes. No spoilers, just some thoughts about how it might end. I would ask that if you comment, please don’t mention anything you might know about 3.08, including the trailers.

I'm very keen to avoid spoilers for the ending of Ashes to Ashes. I even decided not to watch the "Next Week" trailer after episode 6 (broadcast Friday 7th May). But something makes me think I might be taking it too far...

I was putting some dates in my online calendar yesterday, and up came a little help box which said "If this is a regular appointment, you can enter how often it happens and when it ends."

And I thought, I actually thought: "NO! I don't want to know how it ends! Must not click!"

I understand there are some really big spoilers out there at the moment for episode 7 and 8.

*DO NOT WANT*

Honestly, it used to be just a case of not reading The Sun - a pleasure - but now there are major spoilers in Radio Times and even on Radio 4 FFS. What is the world coming to?

And in other news, I got an email from TicketMaster yesterday, and my Green Day tickets are on their way. According to the website they're actually on the van as we speak!!!! Now I can finally start doing something about trying to improve our position from the very top of Level 5 to somewhere we might be able to actually see the band. I'll even buy more tickets before selling these ones if I have to. Obsessed? Er, yeah.

ETA: I was cackling very loudly in unladylike fashion at this (courtesy of [livejournal.com profile] uk_lolitics) when an envelope dropped through my door - yes folks, I have my tickets for Green Day! I didn't hear the courier arrive, and the layout of my house means that he was standing roughly six feet away from me, on the other side of a single pane of glass, as I was amusing myself at the slash-fest this coalition has temporarily turned into. Luckily I have the blinds drawn.

With Ashes to Ashes starting this Friday, I thought it might be a good idea to catch up a bit on previous episodes. No way was I going back to series one, so I watched the first episode of series two yesterday, and now I'm halfway through the second one.

And I'm bored.

It's just not pulling me in, although I think I did quite enjoy this episode the first time. Once you know what's going to happen there's nothing else, whereas with Life on Mars it seems there's always something else, something you didn't notice the first time, or the next, or the next. And while there's absolutely nothing about John Simm that should push my buttons, I can't help it - the moment he walks on screen (or indeed, stage), I'm all sharp intake of breath and "shit, he's gorgeous".

Yesterday's (2.01) was quite good. I enjoyed it. I especially enjoyed looking at, and listening to, Gene when he said "There should be a notice up at all the train stations in the North. The streets of London are paved with shit." Looking gorgeous, sounding ditto. Full of depth and complexity, hint of grief, just the way I like him.

But today's... Ack, I just can't get into it. There's just too much Alex and I keep on looking at her blank pretty face filling the screen and thinking "You know, I don't care. Couldn't care less whether you ever get home. You don't interest or attract me in any way, shape or form".

I've lost all interest in 'the mystery', the roses, the mysterious stranger, the Masons subplot. And I'm finding myself not even caring about Gene so much, and that really makes me angry. It's just all so shallow, so stylised, so cold and trivial and empty.

To be honest, I was glad when the phone went and I had to switch it off.

Comments, anyone?

P.S. This non-spoilery review of 3.01 has me very excited, all the same.
